Train (The Band) has seemed to come back with a vengeance the last few years. Now, I say that despite the fact the band has been around since the early 90’s and started gaining notoriety in 1994 or so. Now, they had some amazingly popular songs such as Meet Virginia and Calling All Angels, they somewhat started to fade away… But then they blew the hell up for a second round when they dropped Hey Soul Sister in 2009. Hey Soul Sister showed a seriously mature song with a sense of humor, showmanship, and sense of purpose that only the greats have been able to do.. I would put that song specifically against songs from the Beatles, Michael Jackson, and Elvis (YES, I just said that… and I believe it.). The difference is that those great artists did it over and over and over again.
And now, here come’s Train with another song that I believe is creatively addictive. It’s not pop, it’s a story wrapped in a song. 50 Ways To Say Goodbye is great and leaves you wondering if it was meant to be serious, or meant to be a joke. You add in the mariachi and it only makes you wonder more, but the song just works. What do you think?
