There’s a new show on HBO called, The Newsroom. On its series opener, the main character goes into a diatribe and states, unequivocally, that the US is not the greatest country in the world any longer. He then goes on to reminisce about when it was the greatest. but does he have a point? Sure. Lets look at some of the things, that we can’t seem to do nowadays.
I don’t think we have it in us to build a new Hoover Damn because environmentalists and regulations would bury any thought of that. I don’t think we have it in us to build a new Empire State building (hell, It took 3 years to build the first World Trade Centers , while rebuilding one modern tower has taken a decade). We haven’t built a nuclear power plant since the 1970’s. We used to do great things in this country, but now we are intent on spending money we don’t have, by borrowing it from other countries. We are messing up somewhere.
But in the end, there is hope to improve our situation, unfortunately, that means learning that government is not the friend of the Individual.
After watching this show, I have to say… It is pretty good and worthy of a look-see.
